East Africa, U.S. launch warning saboteurs of peace in South Sudan

thumbRegional Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary of State of the United States today issued a warning to individuals serving as obstacles to the peace process in South Sudan and urged his impoverished country lead to stability.

Ministers from Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia, who held consultations on the solutions to the crisis in South Sudan with the Secretary of State of the United States John Kerry, strongly agreed that the obstruction will no longer be accepted.

“In a strict time frame, its continued obstruction will be faced with strong measures at regional and international levels,” he said in a statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya.

The statement said the ministers started talks in Ethiopia also noted that the only way forward for South Sudan is an inclusive peace process leading to an inclusive government leaders have expressed their strong willingness to work for peace and national unity.

“Sustained peace not only come from the parties in dispute, although the violence must stop, but you need to include the vital voices of leadership and credibility at national and local level,” the statement added.

The meeting came a day after regional leaders called on South Sudanese leaders to respect the terms of the ceasefire reached earlier and put the interest of their people above their differences.

The meeting was attended Amina Mohamed of Kenya, Uganda Sam Kutesa, Tedor Adhanom of Ethiopia and the Secretary of State of the United States, John Kerry.

The purpose of the meeting was to reach a shared understanding of how violent conflict can be stopped and how humanitarian aid can reach the people who need it so desperately.
