Violence against women

The Secretary General of the UN today stressed that violence against women is an issue that concerns the peace and security, human rights and development, and must act immediately to eliminate this scourge and achieve full equality genus.

“Together we can get more people to understand that violence against women demeans us all”, said Ban Ki -moon at the launch of a campaign against sexual violence through gender equality.

Ban Ki -moon said that only in the last two weeks there have been attacks on women in Nigeria, Pakistan, USA and India, among other parts of the world.

“I have been particularly appalled by the brutal rape and gruesome murder of two teenage women in India who had gone outside because he had no access to a toilet”, he said Ban.

Holder also mentioned the UN initiatives launched to promote the UN among boys and men rejecting attacks on women and hoped that every day more numerous voices heard against violence sexual.

In the event on Tuesday, June 6th was held at the UN headquarters, sponsored by the Mission of the United Kingdom, the executive director of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo -Ngcuka and the representative of the Secretary -General on sexual violence in conflict also participated armed, Zainab Hawa Bangura.
